Deal furniture, unlike oak, or pine furniture, is not made from the wood of a deal tree as there is no such species. The term deal was originally a unit of measure by which timber boards of pine or fir were sold. Originally the minimum dimensions for a deal were 7ins wide, 3ins thick and 6 feet in length.
