In the blue corner, we have Oak and in the red corner we have Pine! Today, we will look at the subtle differences between Oak and Pine tv cabinets

Oak is hardwood while pine belongs to the soft wood varieties. This means that oak is naturally heavier and is more wear resistant. Yet on the other hand, pine is reasonably dense but significantly lighter than oak. Pine has superior stiffness which means it is resistant to shock. Oak is used in many ways, including making traditional furniture, such as Solid Oak TV cabinets. The distinct colour and pattern of oak make this wood ideal for traditionally designed TV Cabinets.

Softwoods come from needle-bearing evergreen trees, such as pine, and are preferred for complicated carved furniture. Softwoods are more susceptible to marks and dings, but as we all know this can often result in an appealing distressed quality.

And the winner iiiiiiiiiiiissssss...

I personally prefer the durability of Oak, but Pine does have its place in the TV Cabinet world.

Catering for the New TV's Widescreens

Wooden TV Cabinets and their styles have changed a bit recently, we're now at a point where widescreen TV's have overtaken the CRT's TV's.

As a result for the first time sales of widescreen TV's Wooden TV cabinets outsell TV cabinets designed for the old CRT's.

The style of these though hasn't changed a great deal their basically just a little longer to cope with the increased size.

What is different is that traditional materials seem to have become more popular. Over the last few decades the contemporary styles were the most used, as customers bought TV Units that used materials like acrylic and plastic in search of this contemprary style.

As Widescreens TV's seem to have a naturally more modern look then setting this off against a Wooden TV Units seems to be the rage.

So demand for Rustic Pine or even a fully distressed Wooden TV Unit is one of the fastest growing category's of the furniture industry.

Pine is back!

After a few years in the doldrums thanks to a rise in popularity of oak furniture, it seems that pine is beginning to come back into favour. Contacts in the industry tell me that demand for pine furniture is starting to strengthen again, so now might well be the time to buy that pine TV unit before demand starts to push up prices.

There are some remakably good quality pine units on the market at the moment in various styles and finishes. Devonshire Pine is a favoured supplier because the quality of its pine ranges is so good plus it has the added 'bonus' that they are made in the UK. Sussex based CPW furniture is another good manufacturer/supplier of pine furniture and its worth seeking out the independent high street and internet suppliers that carry their ranges.

Shome mishtake shurely?

Well as you might gather from the previous post there is more than one person contributing to this blog. I'm the one that's not married by the way (tried it once and still paying for it! - only joking). Apart from all the typos, I can only marvel at the calm way my fellow bloggers wife would have announced that she knew what pine furniture was...

Now that we've cleared up that potential misunderstanding I guess all you ladies out there can go back to your cooking, cleaning or whatever else it is you find to fill the long hours before we return to you each evening to delight you with news of the challenges we have faced during our day. I trust none of you will be foolish enough to visit this scurrilous web page discussing how to train your husband - especially Mrs Fellow Blogger.

In the meantime, our sponsor does indeed offer some excellent pine TV units, so if you want to compile a selection to show to your husband...

Pine TV Units What style is that

I was chatting with my wife the other day and I was explaining the unusual number of searches for different types of Pine Furniture.

I've found that there seem to be a lot of searchs for Pine Category rather than say Oak Category. Maybe I should explain would I what I consider to be a Category first. This would cover the items of furniture, so Pine Bedside or Oak Dining table as opposed to the broader term of Oak Furniture or Pine Furniture.

I think she hit the nail on the head when she explained that a lot of consumers would have a very clear idea of what Pine Furniture is. On the other hand something like Oak Furniture is not quite so descriptive to the lay person.

Anyway with that in mind we thought we'd feature a classic Pine TV Cabinet from one of our sponsors Right Price Furniture. If you look at their Pine TV Cabinet Page you'll see that their styles are quite broad including Mexican & even some Dark Stained Pine Units.

The one we were attracted to was the Devonshire Pine Old Mill Entertainment Unit.

It comes out at £253 which isn't bad for something that is 100% solid Pine.

If you wanted to go for the other end of the scale you could look at this:-

I'm not really sure why they call it Pine as it looks very much like an MDF / veneer jobby. Seen it all before...

I've just discovered another reason why its so important to have a good quality cabinet on which to stand your TV - you'll need something more interesting to stare at instead of the TV screen if you plan on slumping into your favourite chair for some viewing entertainment over the Christams period. Initial reports of the Christmas TV schedules have apparently shown that some 600 hours of the programming on the 4 main terrestrial channels will all be repeats or 'another chance to see' as the announcers put it.

Actually I must confess, that while its sad we seem unable to make new programmes with sufficient appeal these days, I actually ike watching many of the old films and programmes (maybe its an age thing?). I guess they become part of the tradition surrounding Christmas. They remind us of Christmases past, of happy times and of sharing our lives with family or friends that are no longer with us.

OK, its important to look forward and not back, but its also nice to remember the good bits from the past sometimes. Whatever your view, its surprising what a difference a good TV cabinet makes. Its so much neater than a motley collection of receivers, players or whatever surrounded by wires and framed by piles of videos (what?) and DVDs. Because its neater, its actually more enjoyable to watch whats on the screen. For a varied selection of good quality TV cabinets at competitive prices, try our old friends at Right Price Furniture. They offer TV cabinets in a wide choice of styles and finishes, so there should be something to suit most rooms and budgets.

Take a new Look at Pine furniture ranges

At the weekend I was looking at some pine furniture and it was like meeting an old friend I hadn’t seen for some time. I’d forgotten just how new pine furniture can be so fresh and natural – add a few pebbles and some sisal rope and it feels like the seaside, but add a thick rug and a blazing log fire and it feels like a cabin in the mountains.

For a great choice of pine furniture in traditional and contemporary styles I’d look for pine furniture on Right Price furniture’s website. They have dozens of ranges of genuine solid pine furniture and Right Price Furniture is now one of the biggest and most trusted online furniture retailers in the UK.

Break Away from Conventional Furniture Shopping

When browsing furniture stores, you will see many of the obvious types of furniture: dining tables, bedroom furniture collections, chairs, sofas, coffee tables, entertainment cabinets…but there are also some more obscure types of oak furniture out there that you may want to think about buying. If you’re shopping for larger pieces of furniture and happen across some of these odds and ends, you might think about picking up one or two of them.

Blanket boxes, sometimes referred to as storage chests, are really neat little pieces of pine furniture (or other woods) that can be really useful in the bedroom or even your living room. They are, basically, simply a large box. Of course, many are much more than that—they include decorative engraving, fancy tops, and more. These large chests are perfect for sitting at the foot of your bed. You can store all of your extra blankets in them or, if you prefer, your winter clothing during the summer and vice versa. Blanket boxes also make a great toy chest for children or a nice way of storing just about anything. Some even have a couple of drawers on the bottom to hold folded sheets, pillow cases, or anything else that may not fit nicely in the top.

Magazine stands and racks are a good storage option if you subscribe to a lot of magazines or newspapers. There are a couple of different types of magazine storage solutions. Some are more or less just small bins that hold your periodicals, but others may have a top on them. You store the magazines in the bin below, but you can also use the stand as a small end table. Getting double duty out of a piece of furniture is always a great investment, especially if you’re in need of a small table. You can always use these items for other uses, too. For example, a magazine rack might be a great place to keep your yarn or current knitting project if you enjoy those hobbies, or you can use it to hold books.

If you have a fireplace that doesn’t feature a mantle, you may want to invest in a fire surround. These pieces of furniture are designed to fit around your fireplace and give it a very nice frame. Most feature side decorations in addition to the mantle that goes across the top of the fireplace. They will add a nice touch of elegance to any room, and you’ll gain an extra shelf that’s perfect for displaying treasures or photos of the family.

Finally, you might want to add a towel rail to your bathroom if you’ve got the extra space. These free-standing towel rails are a nice way of hanging your towels if you don’t have rails attached to the wall. You can hang four or five towels on most rails so there will be more than enough for you and anyone who shares your bathroom.

These extra little pieces of furniture often don’t cost that much, but adding two or three of them to your home can be a nice way of adding extra storage or a nice extra touch.

Essential Purchases for Your New Home

Whenever you move into your first flat or into your first home, you may realize that you’ve got a shortage of furniture. If you’re moving out of your parent’s home for the first time, you probably only own your bedroom furniture. You’ll be lacking living room furniture, dining room furniture, and more. While you probably won’t need to immediately fill up your flat or house with a lot of different furniture, you will need to purchase some things right away.

You may need to purchase some new bedroom furniture. You may, in fact, want to purchase new bedroom furniture, especially a larger bed or a bigger dresser. Oak bedroom furniture is a good upgrade since it is sturdy, looks nice, and will last for quite some time. Since you may have a bigger bedroom, moving is a good time to purchase a new, larger bed. You might also want to add a new chest of drawers to your set of bedroom furniture to hold more clothing.

Next, let’s move on to the living room. You may want to purchase things like a sofa, a recliner, or several chairs. You might also need a coffee table or several small end tables. For your television, you may want an entertainment centre. Here, again, oak or pine furniture is a good choice. A nice pine entertainment centre looks great, and it makes for a nice, large piece to anchor your living room. You might also want several bookshelves or other shelving pieces to display your books, DVDs, and other items.

In the dining room, you may need a dining table. If you are moving out on your own for the first time, chances are you don’t own one at all. If you’re moving from a flat, you may have a small table. That may be fine if you don’t plan on entertaining and don’t have a large family. However, if you don’t have a table at all, you may want to invest in a small one. If you’ve got the room and the money, you could even pick out a larger dining table. This may be a good investment if you’re going to want a larger table at some point in the future.

There are a few other places where you may want to arrange some oak furniture or pine furniture. If you have a guest room, you will need a bed, dresser, and an end table for it. You may also need a small shelf or organizer for your bathroom. While the kitchen usually doesn’t require any extra furniture, sometimes there is a space for a small table or bookshelf to hold your cook books. If you’re going to set up a home office, you’ll need a desk, bookshelves, and filing cabinets. Obviously, purchasing all of this furniture at the same time as you’re moving into a new home may not be possible. However, at some point, you will want to expand your furniture and make your home feel more lived-in.

Pine Trees = Pine Furniture no such tree as Deal

Deal furniture, unlike oak, or pine furniture, is not made from the wood of a deal tree as there is no such species.
